Pansy Wong 31/5/17
Something I learned: Pansy Wong was born in China, and her mother was illiterate. 1. In book. 2. Surprised, Angry 3. Monkeys 4. No it wouldn't. Because people would get triggered because it's racist. 5. She is saying that the future generations need to be confident in themselves, so she is helping people have a positive attitude. 6. Appo Hocton was the first Chinese person to come to New Zealand. In 1881 a £10 poll tax was placed on each Chinese immigrant, and their numbers were restricted to one person for every 10 tons of ship’s cargo. These figures were raised in 1896 to £100 poll tax and 200 tons of cargo. In 1892 naturalization as New Zealand citizens became free for all except Chinese. In 1908 naturalization for Chinese was abolished and did not resume until 1952. In 1907 a reading test in English was imposed for Chinese immigrants.
